Happy Thanksgiving week! Did you know that November is Family story month?

How perfect is that? Many of you will be gathering together, traveling over the river and thru the woods. Some will be going to Grandmothers house and others will be hosting the parents at theirs. Others will be having friends-giving. Your family can be the tribe you choose. Share stories. Make sure you take a video of Dad’s telling stories with your kids on his knee. Don’t miss Mom’s making their secret stuffing or cranberry sauce. Let your sister in law bring the sweet potatoes. It will be OK. Play silly games with your cousins, the nephews and nieces. Don’t hold grudges, say you are sorry if you did something wrong. You never know that one little thing you do or say can make all the difference to someone.be-thankful-45b86d74eaa5c2e9df86f101215d1fb9

Be kind. Be happy and be well. Treasure these times. Remember the times past. Happy Thanksgiving and Happy Family Story Month! Thank you all for coming in to my life.

May you all have more than you need today!

Be thankful for what you have; you’ll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don’t have, you will never, ever have enough. Oprah Winfrey

I can’t wait to see and hear your family stories.  What is your favorite Pie?  We will be having Pumpkin here.  With a little maple whipped cream.  Yummy!!

Do you make the same resolutions each year?

And So Begins A New Year……12 New Months.

Someone once said do what you love and you will never work a day in your life.  I think there is a bit of a misunderstanding in that statement.  Just because you love what you do does not mean you don’t work and that you don’t work hard.  It just means that you enjoy what you are doing.

With each New Year many of us find that we need to make resolutions or feel the need to take stock of our life.  Now is a great time to use the New Year as a way to better our selves or to take the time to plan out the year.

But before you can do this you must first think about what do you really want?

I was having lunch with a group of women and one of the things that we discovered is that we are sometimes not sure what we really want.  We played a bit of a game where we were  asked to think about these 4 things. We were compelled to learn, reach for, try, test, experiment with, and do by specifically writing down what we needed to feel the following:

Wanted

Happy

Secure

Loved

If you would like to take a closer look take out a piece of paper or open a new page in your computer and divide it into 4 squares.  coffee photo-1444418776041-9c7e33cc5a9c

In the squares write each of the topics.

Wanted                                Happy

Secure                                 Loved

Now think about what makes you feel wanted? What do you need to feel wanted?

What makes you happy?  What do you need to feel happy?

What makes you feel secure? What do you need to feel secure?

What makes you feel loved? What do you need to feel loved?

Come up with as many as you can.  Really think about it and write it down.  Any of these could be related to finances, safety, job, education, and flexibility or to family or friends.

maze-1b0cc699

Maybe  your wanted it to have your family come to you for their needs. That you will always have the laundry done or that your husband has what it need to make you a cup of coffee in the morning. You may feel wanted by knowledge that you are very good at your job or that you are the go to person in certain situations.  You are the best party planner; you organize all the family dinners or holidays.home-photo-1415301918039-3a58086adf06

Maybe your secure is to own your own home?  Or having a plan for retirement or even for your kid’s college?  Your secure could be knowing that you have marketable job skill? Your secure could be related to finances, safety, job, education, and flexibility or to family.

Your happy could be taking a family vacation or maintaining a calm and organized home?  It could be that you love to cook and preparing a meal for your family or friends makes you happy.

compas-photo-1470472304068-4398a9daab00

Your loved could be having a dog greet you at the door and love you unconditionally.  It could be having your husband make you a cup of coffee each morning.  Seeing the joy on your kids faces each day.

Now that you know what you need, you can check how you can get these things.  Now you can make a plan.  Whatever it is you can do it.  So keep learning, reaching, working, reading, trying, resting, and moving forward.

Remember failing to plan is planning to fail.

So what will you do this year?

Thanks Pamela

Tips to bring Order to your Chaos—

Hello,  Anyone who has been here before knows that I am all about controlling your chaos,  organizing your life and corralling your clutter.  Clutter is a time thief.  If you can’t find what you need you spend valuable time searching.  You look under the bed, in the car or between the couch cushions.  Sometimes you give up and buy a new whatever was lost.  That is a budget buster.  You know you bought the funniest birthday card for your sister months ago now her birthday is in a week and you can’t find it.What do you do?  You know what you are going to do.  You buy a new card.  Then the week after her birthday you find the first one.  But you can’t send it to anyone else because it says To my Sister for her 30th Birthday…. ARGH!!

party banners photo-1465060810938-30bbe7c40e76

You know you need to put some order in your life.  But you are overwhelmed?  Where to start?  I am here to help.  You can look back at some of my prior posts to give you an idea.

It does not matter where you start.  The first step is to begin.   The thing that you lose all the time is a good place to start.  If that is keys.  Determine a set place for them.  Put them there every single time.  Without fail.

If it is that your kids can’t seem to get their school stuff together in the morning before school.  You have a nightmarish morning trying to like trying to herd cats.    Set up a system.  Backpacks in a designated spot, homework checked before they go to bed, determine what everyone is wearing the night before and you will eliminate much of the morning chaos.  You might actually enjoy breakfast with your kids.wp-1474664786272.jpg

Maybe you plan on making dinner but what to make?  What do you have?  What do you need?  Organize your pantry.  That way you will know what you have and if you keep a running shopping list you will not run out of ketchup, butter or sugar.  When you open the last of something put it on the shopping list.  If you keep this list on your cell phone it will always be with you.  You can then make a plan the night before as to what you are making for dinner. You will know what you have and what you need to get.

You can get organized.  I am here to help you bring order to your life.  Where do you find are your biggest clutter areas?  What do you frequently lose?

Thanks, Pamela!

National Handbag Day!!!

dream bag Hermes_Ostrich_Birkin_Bag.jpg
Hermes Ostrich Birkin Bag photo from Wikipedia

Ladies we all carry them. Handbags. Some are large. Some are small. There are shoulder bags, hobo, clutch, bucket, cross body or evening bags. Not matter what we have some.  Some of us have a bunch. You know who you are.

Even some men carry a man bag, murse or a messenger bag.

As today is National Handbag day. I think it is a good day to clean them out and get them organized.

messy bag 169135910_a423b3c092_b.jpg

You know the drill. Empty your bag and determine what you really need in there. What you don’t need, do not put back. Organize your receipts; if you need them you need to put them in a folder or a safe place. Your purse if probably not the safest place to keep them.

Strive to keep the loose change, trash and other unnecessary items out of your purse. Clean it out frequently. Organize your makeup in to a small zippered makeup bag.

Use the pockets of your handbag to keep the items you use on a frequent basis. Have a designated spot you keep your phone, your keys and other items. Spare change can get quite weighty. No need to add weight.

Are you frequently digging for your keys?

I use a carabiner for my keys. I always know where they are and they can’t migrate to the bottom of the bag.

If you keep your glasses in a hard case, they will last longer and be less likely to be crushed, broken or scratched.

I don’t switch handbags very often. But if you do and you have LOTS of handbags, now is a good time to thin the herd. Let a few of those handbags go. Do you have a favorite black bag with a broken zipper or tattered and worn out handle? Have you resorted to duct tape? Let it go or take it to the shop and have it repaired. Some of the nicer handbag manufactures will refurbish your bag for a nominal fee.

My dear friend keeps an old handbag in her car that she has turned into a Ms. blessings bag. It has socks; Personal hygiene items (tampons, pant liners, pads, etc.) a toothbrush, toothpaste, soap and shampoo (hotel size are perfect).

I love your comments.  Thanks

Pamela

To re-gift or not to re-gift?

That is the question.

Did you know that National Re-gifting Day is December 22?

christmas-tags-1ujxuwqlfo8-ben-white

Look most of the time gifts are perfect. But occasionally there are those that just don’t hit the mark. Maybe you got a candle that you are highly allergic to the scent or could it be that the scent reminds you of something you would rather forget and you just don’t like the scent? What to do? Keep, donate or sell? Tis the season for giving, so would you re-gift it?   Did you already re-gift it to your neighbor, child’s teacher or the babysitter? Are you sure you didn’t get that from the babysitter?

candles-fhptqzgpbx8-joanna-kosinska

OK I am all for re-gifting. But there are some rules:

rules-scrabble-tiles

Rule #1 –        Do not re-gift to the person who give it to you.

Rule #2 –        Do not re-gift to someone who would know who that gift actually came from.

Rule #3 –        Make sure you remove the card or gift tag from inside the box.

Rule #4 –       Don’t keep stuff you don’t like just because someone gave it to you.

Rule #5 –        Don’t keep stuff you can’t use just because someone gave it to you.

Rule #6           Don’t keep stuff you will not use just because someone gave it to you.

Clutter can sneak up on us. Clutter can come in many ways. From the sale of holiday decor or plastic forks unless you need holiday décor or are planning a large casual party you don’t need to buy it just because it is on sale. “Don’t need”= equals clutter.

Clutter overwhelms and can grow. The best thing to do is keep it in control by limiting the space you allocate for any specific thing. Also, a key to being organized is to have a place for everything and you will be able to have everything in its place.

So have you re-gifted a gift? Why? Did the recipient enjoy it?

Thanks Pamela

National Cat Herders Day 12/15

herding-cats-3593274951_0537ffa90c_bToday is National Cat Herders Day.  I know you are thinking how exactly does this fit in with being organized?

Let me tell you. Some of you feel like getting or staying organized is like herding cats am I right?  See, you knew I would get there.

Besides who doesn’t love a picture of cute kittens.

kitten-iyqc9xwmvw4-freddie-marriage

OK today is the day you herd your cats.   You can get organized and you can get control over your clutter.  Here are a few tips:

  • Stacking things develops bad habits. Stacks of items tend to grow into unmanageable piles of clutter and chaos that then take hours to clean and sort.  Looking a stacks or piles of stuff is stressful. It is a constant reminder that there is something to be done  ~ don’t be a Pilot! No Piles allowed.
  • Let go of what you don’t use or can’t wear.  Absolutely do not pay storage fees to store stuff you don’t use, can’t use and will not use.  Someday is most likely not going to come. If it does you can buy what ever you need and enjoy all the space in the mean time.
  • Kids need chores ~  Make chore  lists for children. If they know what is expected of them they can check that off of their lists too. Make them a chore list.
  • Delegate some of the responsibility. I know your kids may not load the dishwasher the way you would but it’s OK. The dishes will get clean. Also so what if your husband doesn’t fold the towels the way you would. They will still dry you off.
  • Don’t assume. Have clear expectations and responsibilities
  • Don’t put things down put them up. The next time you are piling things up, stop and ask yourself how much longer it would take to put things away. It may take a couple extra minutes now, but will save you even more time and effort in the future.
  • It’s OK to say NO. You don’t have to do it all.

Control your clutter and get organized.  You don’t have to be overwhelmed.  If you control it you can herd you cats.

Thanks Pamela

6 painless ways to have more storage on your phone or tablet

You all know the holidays are almost upon us. That means lots of parties, family gatherings and of course photos. So the last thing you want to see after you have waited in the mall for an hour to have little Wyatt sit on Santa’s knee, then it took forever for him to warm up to the Big Guy in Red….Wait for it….Now he has the most adorable grin on his face so you have  to get a picture of this…………………santa-4123836032_424fbe1779_b

But your phone says….. “NO STORAGE AVAILABLE” What!! Are you kidding me?

See this is why today we are going to be proactive and prepare for all those adorable or sometimes embarrassing photo opportunities. We are going to delete some unused and unnecessary stuff from your phone or tablet.

  1. MOVIES-  I know you downloaded them to watch but you have watched them and you know the lines by heart. “Nobody Puts Baby in the Corner” or “I’ll be your huckleberry” Delete them. Unless, Finding Dory is the only thing that will keep your kid happy then you need that for self-preservation. But Momma’ movies and Dad’s movies they can go.dirty-dancing
  2. MUSIC- This is a tough one for some of you. But if you went through a head banger stage and now you listen to only country. You can probably delete the stuff you don’t listen to.
  3. PODCASTS- Yes they were great. They were informative and enlightening, but now you have absorbed their content so delete them.podcast-67531548_78ffc9828d_z
  4. GAMES – I realize that last summer Pokémon go was the hottest thing on the planet but you have not played it since August. Or you are the King of Candy Crush but then you got to the levels that are really hard – I mean that dang chocolate just keeps coming back. So now you have moved on to another game. Delete the ones you don’t play.candy-crush-9333683759_5b1594072a_z
  5. APPS – Oh my goodness did you download the bubble wrap popping app when you first got your phone and then promptly decide it was annoying. Do you have 6 screens of apps? Do you have so many apps you can’t find the Key Ring that holds your discount cards when you are in the store? It might be time to evaluate what you really use and delete the rest.phone-apps-twitter-facebook-together-exchange-of-information-147413
  6. Last but not least go in and clear your app cache. Heck while you are at it clear your Internet cache also. You will be surprised how much space that takes up.

So there you have it six painless ways to make more space on your phone or tablet. Regardless of if you have an IPhone, Samsung, LG, Kyocera or a Motorola, if you use Apple, Google or Microsoft they all have limits at to the amount of storage space available.

Organize it and make the most of what you have.

Now go out there and be merry and bright. Enjoy all the feasting, fun and take some photos.  I can’t wait to see them.

Mom and others who still have flip phone’s none of this applies.  But I love that you stayed with me and read the entire thing.  We will FaceTime later.

Thanks Pamela
