Is this your year to park in the garage? Tips to make that happen

November means fall, or some of you say autumn but what ever you say soon there will be falling leaves and falling temperatures. We moved to Arizona to not have cold winds, freezing rain and snow. But the rest of you will soon have to be dealing with just those things. We have always had a rule; if we have a two-car garage we will be parking two cars in it. Not allow it to be filled with clutter and stuff. If you have a garage and you can’t park your car in it and you want to; lets work together and make that happen.

Now is the perfect time of the year. Not too hot, not too cold. Just right.

First things first: Timing

Start this project the day after your regular trash pick up. Next if you have “Big trash day” or “bulk trash day” start the weekend before that day.

Get lots of big garbage bags.

If you have not used it in a year and it is not a tool let it go.

You have 3 choices; you can throw it away, donate it or sell it.

If you moved into your house over 2 years ago and you have boxes that you still have not opened. Don’t. Just donate them. You have not needed them they are taking up space.

If you have unfinished projects that have been unfinished for over 2 years, news flash you are not going to finish them. Let them go. If not set a firm deadline and if that deadline passes without you completing them you have to let them go.

If you are using your garage as a storage facility for excess furniture that you do not have a timetable to use, you need to let it go. Most likely when you move into that new house your old stuff that has been sitting in the garage with the spiders, bugs, mice and dust will not work in your space. I can only assume it does not work in your current house.   If you are holding on to your bachelor furniture that your wife will not let you move into the house, just let it go. She is not going to change her mind. Wouldn’t you rather park your car in the garage then sit in that ratty recliner with the oversized rear projection screen TV?

juha-lakaniemi-photo-of-icy-carRemember, months of winter weather are fast approaching. Just saying 10 to 20 more minutes of sleep vs. starting a cold car, scraping off the windshield. Being the wonderful man who you are you will not have to do the same thing for your wife. She will be so happy.

Remember Happy Wife….Happy Life.

Maybe she will buy you a new amazing recliner for your dream man cave.

In summary!

Garages: Just because you have a Garage for storage, doesn’t mean you have to keep everything there forever. Schedule one or two days a year to give the Garage a once over. Once you get the hang of it you wont have to make a big project out of it. Just look for a few things that you can toss or donate. And then do it!

If you live in a neighborhood you can put your stuff on the curb with a “free” sign and more than likely it will disappear.   Last weekend was our big trash day and we put our a broken mini-fridge and a heater along with some tree limbs.  We barely closed the garage door before someone swooped in and grabbed the broken mini-fridge.  They had plans to convert it into a cooler. (Thank you Pinterest!). The next morning the heater was gone too.

Just a word of warning – Don’t leave your junk on the curb for very long.  Your neighbors will not take too kindly to a junky street.

Nothing Risk Nothing Gained

Enjoy this article from Jess.  She writes Life with Jess..  See you tomorrow.  Thanks  Pamela

I can’t. That’s too hard! I’m not strong enough. I’m not good enough. Do any of those sound familiar? For the longest times these were the about the only few phrases in my vocabulary. It did not matter the question… these were always my answer. Everything was terrifying to me.

Home….A Sense of Place — The Chicken Grandma

Today is a day that so many of us will never forget where we were…  But Today I am sharing with you a wonderful story from Faye.  She is the Chicken Grandma.  Why because she is the grandma with chicken.  That is not why  I am sharing her story, I  am sharing this today because will all need a sense of home.  I hope you find some sense of place.  I will see you tomorrow.  Pamela

Years ago when my boys were in high school they had an English teacher who made the class write poetry on the topic “Sense of Place”. He wanted to know what spoke home to them. They sat there stumped for awhile and I told them to just think about what they heard from their bedroom […]

Rags to Riches ~ When does underwear need to go?

Rags or Cleaning Cloths – How many do you really need?

OK, so I know you all need a certain amount of rags or cleaning cloths. My hubby has cloths to clean the cars, ones to clean his golf clubs. We have designated specific cleaning rags for him to use and they are not white or the nice ones. He knows where they are and what is OK to use.

I have towels for the dogs – They are not the new fancy ones, actually, they are old beach towels.

wet dogs playing photo-1456143077270-30de0a1bf7bc

But sometimes I go to a client’s home and they have lots of rags. They have drawers, boxes, bags, and crates full of rags. Don’t use precious drawer space for cleaning cloths.

I understand using rags for when you are polishing your furniture. Of course, you need rags when you are using bleach in your bathroom.

I am absolutely for that. Where we run into problems is when there are too many of them. Limit the amount you actually have. Just like everything else in your home you should designate a space for rags. Also if you have cleaning rags in a designated spot your family will not be prone to use your good towels to clean the mud off of the dog or their shoes. Right! There is a method to my madness.

corvette photo-1446585522508-708651815284

Garage – For your automotive cleaning you will need probably 6 such as One of each Wash, Glass, Conditioner, Interior cleaner, Wheels, Tires and possible 1 or 2 old towels to dry.

For General house cleaning you really only need maybe 3 or 4 cleaning rags or clothes; One of each for windows, polishing furniture, and one or two for bathrooms. You get the idea.

I toss them in the washer when I am done cleaning and then they are ready for use when you need them the next time.Mudy kid - photo-1460563718712-def1dbc17322

The whole point is to limit to what you really need and use. Toss the rest. This may not sound like it would save you much space. True. But small changes make a big difference. If you want to start getting organized this is a perfect way to start. It will only take you a few minutes. You can do it. I’m here to help.

I love your comments.

Thanks Pamela

Do you really need to be organized?

If you are new here you may be asking yourself, do I really need help or do I need to get organized?car photo-1470434151738-dc5f4474c239.jpg

I don’t know do you? Can you walk across the room without stepping on toys? Can you see the floor? How about your office, do you have papers on the floor? Have you tripped or fallen over obstacles in your home? How many shoes are in the floor in the entry? Or this is my favorite. Do you have a door or cabinet that when you open it stuff crashes out? Do have to bob and weave just to get from one room to another?

You don’t need 2 sets of measuring spoons or cups. Or every kitchen gadget advertised on TV. Do you have a bread machine but never use it? Take a look around and see how many other things in your house do you have you never or hardly ever use?

Men are not immune to clutter either. How about this? How many hammers or tape measures have you bought because you would not find one?garage photo-1467385829985-2b0fb82b5193

Guys do you have a really nice toolbox that is empty? Your tools scattered all over? Is there stuff in your garage that you have not used? Are you hoarding furniture and decor items from you bachelor days? Have a two-car garage and no cars fit in it? Don’t even get started on shoes and clothes. I know men can be bigger fashionista than women and have lot of shoes. Yes, sneakers are shoes. Just because they are Air Jordans in the original box does not mean they are not shoes.

What about sports gear? You don’t probably need water skies if you live in Arizona and you don’t own a boat. Same deal with your baseball equipment if you don’t play anymore because you blew out your knee 15 years ago. Give it up. Let it go.playball baseball.jpg

Don’t think we don’t know you use various hair gels and goo. Do you have stuff that you don’t use anymore? You watched an infomercial and you were sure it would re-grow hair or other things… but not so much. I get it; you paid lots of money for it. Look it will not work in the bottle. If you are not going to use it, get rid of it.

If you are not willing to walk on the wild side and risk falling over stuff in the dark then you do need to get organized.

You may be thinking you need a bigger house but it’s not in the budget? You may not need a bigger house what you need is a better system to stay organized. You may need less stuff.

Disorganization and clutter can leave you feeling overwhelmed.

But there is a way to gain control. Let go. Sell, donate, trash or give away.

De-cluttering can improve your life —

Clutter can also cause you to feel more stress and guilt.

You will feel better, have more space and if you organize your stuff you will have more time since you will not be searching for lost items. Small steps really do lead to big changes. Start small, be consistent and you will see results.

I am here to help. Feel free to look back over the posts for specific tips and I will continue to give you tips to gain control of your clutter.

Feel free to like, comment or share.  Thanks
