NATIONAL CLEAN OUT YOUR REFRIGERATOR DAY – November 15

Later this week is national clean out your refrigerator day. So you know what that means…

Empty the containers that are way in the back.

Toss out the takeout from 3 weeks ago. (You will thank me later.)

Do you have an almost empty bottle of mayo or Catalina dressing? Do you even like Catalina dressing? No? Well, why are you keeping the ½ ounce that is at the bottom of that bottle?condiments photo-1465060780892-48505fc8f941.jpg

Do you have a beer that you have been saving for the Astro’s to win the world series? They did and that beer may not be as satisfying as the last game was. Ditto for any other expired food you have in there.  Let it go.

Besides if you live in the USA, Thanksgiving is coming. You need room for all the food. The dressing, pumpkin pie and the turkey, oh my. You must make room for the goodies.

Now that you have tossed the science experiments that were growing in your refrigerator it’s time to clean all the shelves, wash the crisper drawers.  Don’t forget to vacuum condenser coils and vacuum out under the refrigerator.

Again you are welcome!  Now enjoy your nice clean refrigerator.

So Happy Clean Out Your Refrigerator Day!!!

Thanks!

Pamela

Clean Your Entire Home in Under One Hour — Home School On A Dime

One day, while searching for a cleaning hack for my stained shower, I stumbled across the term “speed cleaning”. Ever heard of it? I hadn’t, but having done cleaning as a profession for years, I was intrigued. This new found term could not have come into my brain at a better time. Yes, you read that […]

Rags to Riches ~ When does underwear need to go?

Rags or Cleaning Cloths – How many do you really need?

OK, so I know you all need a certain amount of rags or cleaning cloths. My hubby has cloths to clean the cars, ones to clean his golf clubs. We have designated specific cleaning rags for him to use and they are not white or the nice ones. He knows where they are and what is OK to use.

I have towels for the dogs – They are not the new fancy ones, actually, they are old beach towels.

But sometimes I go to a client’s home and they have lots of rags. They have drawers, boxes, bags, and crates full of rags. Don’t use precious drawer space for cleaning cloths.

I understand using rags for when you are polishing your furniture. Of course, you need rags when you are using bleach in your bathroom.

I am absolutely for that. Where we run into problems is when there are too many of them. Limit the amount you actually have. Just like everything else in your home you should designate a space for rags. Also if you have cleaning rags in a designated spot your family will not be prone to use your good towels to clean the mud off of the dog or their shoes. Right! There is a method to my madness.

Garage – For your automotive cleaning you will need probably 6 such as One of each Wash, Glass, Conditioner, Interior cleaner, Wheels, Tires and possible 1 or 2 old towels to dry.

For General house cleaning you really only need maybe 3 or 4 cleaning rags or clothes; One of each for windows, polishing furniture, and one or two for bathrooms. You get the idea.

I toss them in the washer when I am done cleaning and then they are ready for use when you need them the next time.Mudy kid - photo-1460563718712-def1dbc17322

The whole point is to limit to what you really need and use. Toss the rest. This may not sound like it would save you much space. True. But small changes make a big difference. If you want to start getting organized this is a perfect way to start. It will only take you a few minutes. You can do it. I’m here to help.

I love your comments.

Thanks Pamela

Tip Tuesday:

Hello,  you know I am the Queen of Useless Trivial Knowledge and sometimes that knowledge is actually helpful.

Hang it up –

  • When you are trying to hang an object with pre set screw holes. Take a photo of the back of the object you will be hanging. Print it off and voila you have a perfect template.
  • Use masking tape to measure distance between the two holes, now put the tape on the wall.
  • If you are hanging a large object. Place a dab of toothpaste on the back of the hanger to make your spot, then position the frame on the wall, press the frame against the wall to have the toothpaste mark the spot!
  • If you are hanging a collage make a paper template of each object you will be hanging. Arrange the paper on the floor. Then nail the paper to the wall. Rip off the paper you are ready to place your objects.
  • For hanging picture with the wire on the back. Make a helper; by taking a ruler drive a nail completely thru the ruler near one end of the ruler. Now you are going to be able to place the wire on the nail, press the nail into the wall and it will leave an indentation where you need to hammer in the hanging nail.

Clean if off –

  • Use a pillowcase to clean your ceiling fans. Just slip the fan blade inside of the pillowcase, (throw it over the blade, and pull back towards the end. Your dust will fall into the pillowcase and not all over the floor or your bed or you.
  • Place waxed paper on the top of your kitchen cabinets to catch dust and grease. You can easily replace it every few months.
  • Place a damp sponge in your microwave for a few minutes the sponge will be serialized and all that steam will allow you to easily wipe the crud off of the inside of your microwave. Make sure you let the sponge set in there for a few minutes after the time to allow for cooling. That sponge will be sizzling HOT.

Remove it –

  • Use a rubber band to remove a stripped screw. Place the rubber band on top to the screw and use your screwdriver to remove it as you normally would.
  • Having trouble opening a jar or bottle – Place a rubber band around the lid. It will give you a little extra grip. You a can place another around the jar for double gripping power.

I am sure you have lots of tried and true tips as well.  Want to share your best?
