The real Truth – Volume I ~ Selling your stuff

The real truth about selling your stuff

I just made the decision to downsize one of our 2 guest rooms from a queen to a twin. See living in Arizona we have brutal summers and guest filled winters.emanuela-picone-46395

Which we love both of these things. But we realized we so far have not needed a sleeping arrangement for 4 adult guests at one time. We more likely need sleeping accommodations for 3. Thus the decision to sell one of our queen beds and purchase a twin. Easy right?

Finding a new twin bed was easy. When our friends were downsizing and had a twin bed for sale I jumped on it because they have GREAT taste and their house is amazing. I know they had a 5 bedroom house and no one had ever slept on this one was in perfect condition, so I felt comfortable buying a used mattress from them. I would not buy a mattress from just anyone. Bedbugs, dust-mites, pets, and kid stains yucky!!

Now there is some urgency to sell the old bed. Simple right? List it on Craigslist? Facebook, eBay or take to a consignment store?

Did you know that Facebook has local buy and sell pages? Also, there is a marketplace page that has a good reach for your specific area.

I did a bit of research, I chose Facebook and determined a fair price.bram-naus-200967.jpg

I took pictures and listed it on some of the local buy and sell pages. Now we wait. Not too long and I have interest and a sale.

The real truth is you have to choose a fair price. You are selling used stuff. In our case, it was a 25 year old bed. Not old enough to be an antique. So of course it’s not worth much and I wanted it to go. Price your stuff to sell and it will.

If I was selling something unique, small or light I might list it on eBay but not common furniture.

Not only do you have to know your market, i.e., price your stuff properly but you need to research where you want to list your stuff. Do you want anyone coming to your house?  Be safe.  If you are not comfortable having your address out there arrange to meet at a public place.

Do you want to have a garage sale? If you do Stay tuned for a post to have a sussessful garage sale.

Have a great day!

Thanks Pamela

  1. Good tips. Before meeting to sell items try calling down to the police or sheriffs office and asking if you can do the exchange in the back of their parking lot. A lot of them have such safe places set up for people. 🙂
