Ladies we all carry them. Handbags. Some are large. Some are small. There are shoulder bags, hobo, clutch, bucket, cross body or evening bags. Not matter what we have some. Some of us have a bunch. You know who you are.
Even some men carry a man bag, murse or a messenger bag.
As today is National Handbag day. I think it is a good day to clean them out and get them organized.
You know the drill. Empty your bag and determine what you really need in there. What you don’t need, do not put back. Organize your receipts; if you need them you need to put them in a folder or a safe place. Your purse if probably not the safest place to keep them.
Strive to keep the loose change, trash and other unnecessary items out of your purse. Clean it out frequently. Organize your makeup in to a small zippered makeup bag.
Use the pockets of your handbag to keep the items you use on a frequent basis. Have a designated spot you keep your phone, your keys and other items. Spare change can get quite weighty. No need to add weight.
Are you frequently digging for your keys?
I use a carabiner for my keys. I always know where they are and they can’t migrate to the bottom of the bag.
If you keep your glasses in a hard case, they will last longer and be less likely to be crushed, broken or scratched.
I don’t switch handbags very often. But if you do and you have LOTS of handbags, now is a good time to thin the herd. Let a few of those handbags go. Do you have a favorite black bag with a broken zipper or tattered and worn out handle? Have you resorted to duct tape? Let it go or take it to the shop and have it repaired. Some of the nicer handbag manufactures will refurbish your bag for a nominal fee.
My dear friend keeps an old handbag in her car that she has turned into a Ms. blessings bag. It has socks; Personal hygiene items (tampons, pant liners, pads, etc.) a toothbrush, toothpaste, soap and shampoo (hotel size are perfect).

I switched to coloured, mainly non-leather (lighter) backpacks years ago because they’re much better for my back and posture. But I have very many very good bags just taking up place in a closet (bet you aren’t surprised!). But the very few euros I’d get by reselling them make it painful to do anything about them 😦

Bea I understand but if you can’t use them they are just taking up space. I have some thoughts on how to help you. Host an event to swap. You can do handbags, scarfs, belts and jewelry. You may find an amazing scarf that you will wear to swap for your bag that you will not.

Pretty creative! Attractive scarves are one of the only wearables I have a passion for – I dress zen and scarves give it ooomph. So it’s a good idea 🙂

I bought a handbag organiser that allows me to move handbags easily. It is a godsend!

I do switch out bags – not often, but pretty regularly. I’ve got a series of little bags in my larger handbag, organized by the type of item in the bag. One has electric cords for my phone/Kindle/etc., one has makeup-type items, one has miscellaneous, etc. That way, I can switch bags quickly and easily, and can keep everything within easy reach. It works great for me!

YOLO. What’s the point of hoarding handbags if you don’t use them at all? Same with hoarding all kinds of perfume. Time to use them.Get your money’s worth.Live without regret. Once they’re all used up and it’s time to get rid of it, you’ll have the satisfaction of having experiences thepleasure of using them all. If one is only keeping a certain item out of sentimental reasons(unless it’s an heirloom), I suggest that you take a picture of it and file it away as a souvenir.

I must not have a passion for handbags/purses. I have the same one I have had for the last 5 years and I purchased it at a second hand shop. I love it because the handle can be adjusted long enough to wear as a kind of sling type handbag.
My husband laughs at me whenever we go somewhere in the car. I use the travel time to clean out my purse. Loose change can be a back killer if you accumulate too much in your purse.

Ha! I’m so hip, I didn’t even know it was national handbag day and I switched purses today. I am awesome! Lol. I try to find the smallest bag I can that will still hold my phone and my glasses. Not as easy as you might think and ladies actually point and laugh at my tiny purses…how rude.

I must confess I am a bag-a-holic. But luckily I have a daughter in law who is one also. so we are constantly feeding off each other, borrowing and swapping them. I love totes but find the bigger the bag, the more I put in it…for weekends though I carry a small crossbody…check out my blog when you get a chance…..www.agshap.wordpress.com
