If you are new here you may be asking yourself, do I really need help or do I need to get organized?
I don’t know do you? Can you walk across the room without stepping on toys? Can you see the floor? How about your office, do you have papers on the floor? Have you tripped or fallen over obstacles in your home? How many shoes are in the floor in the entry? Or this is my favorite. Do you have a door or cabinet that when you open it stuff crashes out? Do have to bob and weave just to get from one room to another?
You don’t need 2 sets of measuring spoons or cups. Or every kitchen gadget advertised on TV. Do you have a bread machine but never use it? Take a look around and see how many other things in your house do you have you never or hardly ever use?
Men are not immune to clutter either. How about this? How many hammers or tape measures have you bought because you would not find one?
Guys do you have a really nice toolbox that is empty? Your tools scattered all over? Is there stuff in your garage that you have not used? Are you hoarding furniture and decor items from you bachelor days? Have a two-car garage and no cars fit in it? Don’t even get started on shoes and clothes. I know men can be bigger fashionista than women and have lot of shoes. Yes, sneakers are shoes. Just because they are Air Jordans in the original box does not mean they are not shoes.
What about sports gear? You don’t probably need water skies if you live in Arizona and you don’t own a boat. Same deal with your baseball equipment if you don’t play anymore because you blew out your knee 15 years ago. Give it up. Let it go.
Don’t think we don’t know you use various hair gels and goo. Do you have stuff that you don’t use anymore? You watched an infomercial and you were sure it would re-grow hair or other things… but not so much. I get it; you paid lots of money for it. Look it will not work in the bottle. If you are not going to use it, get rid of it.
If you are not willing to walk on the wild side and risk falling over stuff in the dark then you do need to get organized.
You may be thinking you need a bigger house but it’s not in the budget? You may not need a bigger house what you need is a better system to stay organized. You may need less stuff.
Disorganization and clutter can leave you feeling overwhelmed.
But there is a way to gain control. Let go. Sell, donate, trash or give away.
De-cluttering can improve your life —
Clutter can also cause you to feel more stress and guilt.
You will feel better, have more space and if you organize your stuff you will have more time since you will not be searching for lost items. Small steps really do lead to big changes. Start small, be consistent and you will see results.
I am here to help. Feel free to look back over the posts for specific tips and I will continue to give you tips to gain control of your clutter.
Feel free to like, comment or share. Thanks

We are relieved from our decluttering and will continue to keep “things” in check. Huge free-up! Nice post.

I’ve become very aware that my very big desk isn’t doing my inspiration and efficiency much good, ’cause it has way too much stuff on it to distract me. So I’m trying to accelerate eliminating, de-junking, shredding, re-organizing it with the target of a vast zen-like expanse of lovely light coloured wood in front of me! All this thanks to have become addicted to your posts haha 🙂

I guess that the issue with the tool box is that it is not empty. It is usually from there that it is overflowing 🙂

Either you need a bigger tool box or less tools. Eliminate duplicates.

The thing about keeping those items I might use again in the future like sporting equipment is that if I ever do decide to take it up again, I’ll want new stuff that is better than what I already have – so that clutter is going to charity at some point – if I don’t get rid of it now, it’s just clutter until then!

Agreed. So let them go.

“Can you walk across the room without stepping on toys?” Nope. My lovely wonderful doggie makes sure to leave his toys where I will run into them and have to throw them. I move them and he moves them back. 🙂
A general guide for getting rid of stuff is if it hasn’t been used/seen in 6 months. An exception to that is tools and emergency equipment like fire extinguishers.

Agreed. My pups do the same thing but we tend to limit their toys by rotating them. It helps. I agree on tools and emergency equipment. Those you hope you never need but my have.

I am finding I am much more “ruthless” in getting rid of extra stuff and duplicates than my husband. He always thinks he needs a spare “just in case.” Big sigh…….

Me too. I am known for being ruthless. LOL. Bedsides we found that we were buying duplicates because we could not find the first one. So now no excuses.

I probably will not get him trained or retrained after 35+ years. Oh well, as long as I can contain it I am happy.

I’m pretty good at de cluttering as my house is fairly small – but we all have that one cupboard….

That’s the one to work on. I know you can do it. Everyone has one too. Even me. Thanks to my other half. 😀
